Our Mission:

Amplifying the impact of nonprofits addressing housing insecurity through people-centered storytelling and sustainable fundraising.

Our Vision:

We envision a world where everyone has a safe and stable place to live and where everyone understands their unique role in making this vision a reality.

Our Framework for Change

  • Once people are connected and engaged, we educate them about the realities of housing insecurity. By telling stories this way, we restore dignity and humanity to the people our nonprofit partners serve.

  • We help create collective movement by channeling their passion through the missions of the nonprofits we partner with. We make it easy for supporters to plug into ongoing community work.

  • When people feel connected to the cause and each other, they become ambassadors for the nonprofit's mission. Eventually, they bring new people into the fold, and the process repeats. Through this, the movement naturally grows.

Our Values

  • It’s in the name—we put people first, no exceptions. People are at the center of every interaction, every story, and everything we do.

  • We believe in sustainable approaches to housing justice that create long-term, action-oriented opportunities that forge deep engagement. We don’t do quick fixes—we build movements addressing underlying root causes.

  • We believe in the interconnectedness of all things. We understand that housing insecurity is connected to larger systems—healthcare, education, employment, and community support. We help nonprofits work together across the housing continuum because small collaborative actions can create big systemic change.

  • Everyone can (and should) be a philanthropist. We believe every contribution, every voice, every act of advocacy matters in building a world where everyone has their basic human needs met.

  • We amplify community-level work by people who know their communities best. Through engaging storytelling that puts the person first, we boost underrepresented voices and create advocacy opportunities. We partner with nonprofits to strengthen existing work and improve current systems rather than creating new ones.

  • We are lifelong learners and curious listeners who prioritize staying current on evidence-based solutions, learning from and alongside others, and remaining engaged. Our curiosity drives us toward continuous improvement and advocacy rooted in understanding rather than assumption.

  • We do what we say, and say how we feel. We are transparent, reliable, authentic, and integrity-driven. Not just with our clients, but in our storytelling, we believe in clear messaging that cuts through the noise of our world.

  • We recognize that those closest to the issue hold the greatest expertise. We prioritize the insights and leadership of people who have experienced housing insecurity firsthand, and we center the knowledge of local leaders who understand their communities' unique challenges.

How did we decide on the name, People First Communications?

As communicators and community builders, we understand the power of language — its ability to provide a perspective, change minds, and bring people closer together.

People-first language puts the person first. An example we often use in our work is the term "people experiencing homelessness," which puts the person before their situation and doesn't let their circumstances define their personhood.

People-first language encourages us to approach every person with empathy and respect—a  mindset we strive to apply in all aspects of our work and beyond.

Ready to work with a team that cares about people as much as you do?

Let’s take your impact to the next level.
