Garrett and Amethyst are a husband and wife duo passionate about ending homelessness one story, one supporter, and one strategic campaign at a time.

Collaborators since their first days at university, they have rooted their life’s work in shared values of relationships, authenticity, and integrity—values that now drive People First Communications.

Together, they offer a unique combination of skills that amplify the impact of nonprofits addressing homelessness. Garrett brings his strategic fundraising expertise and coalition building experience, with a track record of securing millions for nonprofits. Amethyst contributes research-backed storytelling that transforms donors into deeply integrated advocates. This dual expertise in both development and communications means they can consult with organizations ready to increase their impact and help them craft comprehensive campaigns that actually work.

Co-authoring new beginnings for people experiencing homelessness is Garrett's professional North Star. By connecting caring community members to the people served by local nonprofits, he helps organizations amplify their impact and build the coalition of supporters needed to end homelessness one person, and one family at a time. 

Garrett has led fundraising campaigns and cultivated relationships that have secured millions of dollars for nonprofits. Before People First Communications, Garrett helped end homelessness for families in the Treasure Valley as Director of Development for CATCH Idaho. He is a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE), Project Management Professional (PMP), nonprofit founder, and has worked with hundreds of nonprofits in various capacities including his service with the Idaho Nonprofit Center as Training and Programs Manager. Garrett earned his master's degree from the London School of Economics and bachelor's degree from Washington State University. He is a reader, foodie, and traveler who is working through the classics and his ever-growing bucket list.

Amethyst (Am), MSc Psychology

Understanding how stories shape human connection and drive collective action is Amethyst's passion. Her superpower lies in bringing nonprofit supporters closer to missions through people-centered storytelling and personalized communications, transforming donors into deeply integrated advocates.

Amethyst has led high engagement, multi-channel marketing campaigns through her work with People First and beyond. At Washington State University, she rebranded large-scale communication campaigns that increased special population enrollment by nearly 40%. She also created nationwide programming and communications for Fulbright Hungary’s EducationUSA Advising Center in partnership with the U.S. Embassy. With her MSc in Psychology of Mental Health from the University of Edinburgh and Social Psychology research background, she brings research-backed insight to crafting people-centered narratives that honor dignity while building authentic community relationships.

An avid daydreamer, adventurer, and creative, Amethyst believes in making the world smaller through the transformative magic of storytelling.
